Monday 10th December 2007 Imperious weekend for Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi.
Two of the biggest names in online poker had great weekends, with Hobson being particularly impressive in the UltimateBet Online Championship 2.
Hobson is better known to the online community by his Full Tilt and Pokerstars alias, “DuckU”. He come to the spotlight earlier this year when he won back to back Full Tilt Poker Sunday major tournaments. He also won a $1,000 tournament on Full Tilt in July for $82,000, and also cashed at a number of other events this year.
Under the different alias of “Wild Duck”, Hobson took down two of the events in the UBOC series this weekend, Event 2 for $29,000 and then Event 4, the $200,000 Guaranteed, for $55,000. Not content with that, he then final tabled Event 5, where he was looking good for a hattrick until running into Eric “Rizen” Lynch’s flush. He had to settle for fifth and a mere $14,000. How disappointing…
In the meantime Sorel Mizzi looked to put the Full Tilt controversy behind him with some cashing of his own. The plan started well when he won the Tournament Titan event on Titan Poker for $188k plus a seat to the 2008 World Series of Poker.
He then continued the run on Sunday, winning the $100+$9 rebuy tournament on Pokerstars, the High Stakes Poker Showdown for $20k and then went deep in the Sunday Million, eventually finishing in 34th place.
