2008 WSOP Schedule Announced

Yes, the time has come again. The schedule for the 2008 WSOP has been announced by Harrah’s, and for the first time it will both begin and end with $10,000 championship events.

The schedule contains 55 events in total, with eight $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em events. These tend to draw in the largest fields with the exception of ‘The Big One’, and the WSOP has added a second start day for the first of the $1,500 no-limit competitions to accommodate the expected number of entrants.

The series starts with a $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em event on the 30th May and ends with the World Championship of No-Limit Hold’em event – best known as the WSOP Main Event – which kicks off on the 3rd July. Those of you who will need to book time off from work will need to get until the 16th off, which is when the final table will play and crown another champion.

The six other $10,000 buy-in events are all World Championship competitions, and will include: Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'Em; Seven-Card Stud; Limit Hold'Em; Omaha Hi-Low Split Eight or Better; Pot-Limit Omaha; and a new Mixed Event. The Mixed Event will feature eight variations of poker: Limit and No-Limit Hold'Em; Omaha Hi-Low and Pot-Limit Omaha; Seven Card Stud; Razz; Seven Card Hi-Low Split; and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball.

The 2nd July will also see the second Ante Up for Africa Event, co-hosted by Don Cheadle and Annie Duke. Founded in 2006 by Cheadle, Duke and Norman Epstein AUFA is dedicated to raising money and awareness for Africans in need, and raised over $700,000 last year.

The full schedule can be checked at www.worldseriesofpoker.com.
