Guaranteed Play Idea Hits Resistance

According to a piece in the Las Vegas Sun, land casino slot developers have encountered resistance to a new ‘guaranteed play’ concept that offers a minimum number of hands or spins for each deposit.

The newspaper reported that gamblers are apparently wary of the new feature for video poker slots following its introduction by Station Casinos Inc on a limited basis in the Las Vegas area earlier in the year.

Anthony Curtis, Publisher of the Las Vegas Advisor newsletter, is quoted as stating that ‘guaranteed play’ isn't for maths experts who seek the highest possible return for each hand but for casual players who want more gambling time for their money.

Curtis stated that the public is afraid of this new feature but that this is the same public that was apprehensive of ticket machines before those overtook coin-operated slots after a few years.

'Players come here knowing they're going to spend that $20 and that's in their wallet,' said Jay Fennel, Director of Corporate Slot Operations for Station.

'They want more time at the machine.'

Fennel said that Station executives remain bullish as they discuss future applications for the technology including expanding it to include spinning reel slots and table games as a way to package gambling offerings.

'This is just the tip of the iceberg,' said Fennel.

'Gamblers are finicky, superstitious and very resistant to change. We are just trying to get people to try it.'
