Celebrities mix golf and poker in charity challenge

US sporting stars have signed up for a charity event which will involve them showing their skills at both golf and poker.

Hosted by Super Bowl champion and veteran Philadelphia Eagles player Seth Joyner, Fort McDowell Casino's Par & Poker Celebrity Challenge for Charity will take place on January 31st at the We-Ko-Pa Golf Club and the Fort McDowell Casino.

Players will first navigate an 18-hole golf course with pro tour-like conditions and then move to the casino for a No Limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament, which organisers claim will be the largest celebrity event of its kind in Arizona's history.

"This is going to be an event with over 40 'Class-A' athletes and entertainers," said Andy Walker, executive director for the Joyner-Walker Foundation, which is coordinating the event.

So far former professional basketball players Julius 'Dr J' Erving, Clyde 'The Glide' Drexler and Len 'Truck' Robinson have been confirmed to attend as well as American football players Roy Green, Rob Moore, Marcus Allen, Eric Dickerson and Lawrence Taylor.

The Teach For America (TFA) Foundation, which helps children advance through education, will benefit from the event's proceeds.
