Thursday 20th December 2007 Marty hoping for the luck of the Irish
A man from county Antrim could find a trip to London makes him $1,000,000 richer as he takes part in the semi final of the Ladbrokes Poker Million VI.
Professional poker player Marty Smyth will put on his best poker face for the event at the Marriott Hotel in London, trying to outwit five other players.
Already having beaten celebrity poker players Danielle Lloyd, Matt Dawson and Brian McFadden, Smyth will now face the formidable Liam Flood from Kildare, another pro on the poker circuit.
Marty will pocket a minimum of $25,000 in prize money, but first place would earn him $1,000,000. "I'm looking forward to it, but also a bit nervous too," he told the Belfast Telegraph. "There's not much preparation I can do other than get a good night's sleep. I've been watching footage of the other five guys playing in earlier stages as I'm sure they're doing too, apart from that there's not much more I can do to prepare." "It is an amazing prize to play for and it would be fantastic to win. But taking part is going to be great as well," he added. "I'm sure my girlfriend will be able to think of a few things to spend the money on if I scoop the top prize!"
Marty enjoyed success at this year's Irish Open, but says he likes nothing better than playing poker online.
