PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Already Over for Some

It is one of the biggest tournaments ever outside of the World Series. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure saw a total of 1,135 players buy in to the $7,800 + $200 event, creating one of the toughest fields to have been assembled. Amongst the entrants were a swarm of Team Pokerstars, including Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Dario Minieri and Hevad Khan.

With a field so big, you would expect a little bit of caution as players try to avoid an early exit. That wasn’t the case here though, with 320 of the 556 from Day 1a being knocked out before the close of play. Amongst those to have fallen to the wayside were Minieri, his Italian compatriot Luca Pagano, as well as other Pokerstars professionals such as Tuan Lam and Katja Thater. Victims from Day 1b included Greg Raymer, Joe Hachem and Vanessa Rousso.

So who is still in contention? When the chips were counted from the two respective Day Ones it was amateur Brian Lindsay on 225,875 at the top of the pile. In fifth is Steve Paul-Ambrose on 170,925, and he certainly feels at home at this tournament, winning it in 2006 and narrowly missing the final table last year. Also in contention are some of the biggest names in poker. Daniel Negreanu won a key hand late in the day to propel himself to 93,950, whilst Josh Arieh is a fraction under 110,000. Top online players Eric ‘Rizen’ Lynch (141,675) and Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier (123,825) are also well in contention. With so many good players remaining, Day 2 is sure to throw together some tough tables.
