Poker more important than acting for Tilly

Actress Jennifer Tilly has said that playing poker is a refreshing change from acting.

Despite having an Oscar nomination for her skills as an actress, the star prefers playing poker to making movies in many ways.

Ms Tilly has flown to Melbourne from her Los Angeles home to take part in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship.

Her most recent movie took her to the gambling capital as she finished filming Art in Las Vegas with Andie MacDowell last year.

But the breathy actress says that playing poker for real far beats filming.

"I like having to use your mind, not your looks," she told the Herald Tribune.

"Acting can be very political. You have to be the flavour of the month and work with good people," she added.

Ms Tilly is coached by famoud poker pro Phil Laak, who is also currently in Melbourne.

"Poker attracts a huge following in the US and Phil is recognised as often as I am," she said. "We've been wanting to get to Australia for years so we are really excited to be here.
We're definitely going to get outside Melbourne and see some of the countryside."

Ms Tilly won the Ladies No Limit Texas Hold'em event at the 2005 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
