Obama victory gives poker fans hope

After presidential candidate Barack Obama won the caucus in Iowa last week, people in the US are becoming excited that they may have a president who loves poker.

The Iowa win is always an important one for presidential hopefuls and Thursday proved a success for Obama, who is bidding to become the 44th president of the United States.

Obama is known to be a poker fan and if in power, it is possible that he could lifet the US ban on online poker.

The Illinois-born US Senator admitted to playing poker while he was a young politician in the Illinois State Senate.

"He had the stone face," said Senator Terry Links, who played poker with Obama. "He didn't stay in hands if he didn't think he had a chance of winning."

The 46-year-old Democrat took 38 per cent of the vote in the State of Iowa, beating John Edwards, who took 29.8 per cent and Hillary Clinton, who achieved only 29.5 per cent.

If Obama were to become president, he would be the first ever black man to take on the role.

It could also mean a great deal of happy poker fans if he lifts the gambling ban.
