David ‘The Dragon’ Pham Leads the PCA

What began with a field of 153 ended with 40 players, all of whom have now cashed in the Caribbean. For some, that is an achievement in itself, but the vast majority will now have their eye on the final table and the top prize of $2,000,000.

The man in prime position to do that is David Pham. For years now ‘The Dragon’ has been one of the most consistent tournament players in the world, and this year his fine form earned him the 2007 Card Player Player of the Year title. He started quickly during Day 3, and was the first player past the million chip count. He ended the day on 2,003,000.

The day was a mixed affair for the Team PokerStars pros, and it didn’t help when one knocked out the other in a cold deck moment. Hevad Khan had moved his way up the leaderboard and moved higher still after his pocket Aces found business from Barry Greenstein’s pocket Kings. Unfortunately for Khan, he couldn’t carry the momentum on all day, and ended up busting in 45th.

The online players who held the top 3 spots at the start of the day had a mixed day too. Eric Lynch managed to find his way into Day 4, as did Bertrand Grospellier, but only after Grospellier had most of his stack torn away from him when his AQ failed to hold against JT with all the money in before the flop. He rallied, and ended up on 729,000. Peter Jetten had a quick fall from grace after being chip leader at the end of level 14, ending up on the rail in 42nd place.

Day Four will see the 40 players play down to a final table of eight.
