We played the “Over” in this contest as a High Roller Pick on Saturday and walked away with a winner. We are coming back with it again today, as every major indicator is pointing to a high scoring game. Anaheim comes into this contest with some gaudy offensive numbers, as they are producing 6.1 runs of offense per game overall and 6.7 runs per game when on the road. That is not to mention the 7.7 runs per game they are scoring their past seven contests overall. With numbers like these, is it any wonder the Angels are second in the majors behind only Texas in team batting average? Note also that Anaheim has been nothing short of angelic in other categories as well. The Halos are ranked No. 1 in the majors in runs scored, No. 1 in total hits, No. 6 in doubles, No. 1 in triples and No. 1 in RBI’s.
For their part, Baltimore checks in with offensive numbers that are quite impressive as well. The Orioles average 5.6 runs per game of offense, as well as 6.0 runs per game of offense when at Camden Yards. The Black & Orange Birds go about scoring runs the more traditional way. Consider that they rank 2nd out of 30 MLB teams in OBP (on base percentage), 1st in the majors (by a long ways) in stolen bases, 4th in team batting average, 8th in runs scored and 12th in RBI’s. Baltimore also rips right-handed pitching, producing 6.5 runs per game against them on the season.
Anaheim will send Escobar to the hill tonight, while the O’s will send Ponson. For the season, these guys carry a combined 11.68 ERA overall. Over their past three respective starts, this combined ERA figure soars to 15.03. We should also mention that these two guys have collectively gone 10-3 (o/u) in their thirteen respective starts!!! In addition, the O’s and Halos have jointly combined for an amazing 45-23 (o/u) mark in their sixty-eight respective games this season. In the home and away situation, that totals figure goes to 30-12 (o/u). We should also mention that the past five meetings in this series have also gone “over”, with yesterday’s contest producing 11 runs and the prior day’s meeting producing 19. We can write a “War and Peace” length novel on additional trends and systems supporting the “over” here, but trust the aforementioned pitcher/teams/series trends give you a pretty clear picture.
