Gus Hansen On Another Online Hot-Streak

We all know about Gus Hansen and his own, very special brand of poker. Raising with rags to make his riches seems to be something the Dane has become famous for. Such an aggressive style leads to high-variance, but what we do know is that lately Gus has been getting the best of it.

The last few days has, according to statistics at HighStakesDB.com, seen Hansen win nearly one million dollars. One particular table saw Hansen leave his cyber-seat with $528k.

The man who has taken the brunt of the Hansen hit is Ziigmund, aka Finnish professional player Ilari Sahamies, who lost most of his profits from January back to Hansen. The swing is not unusual for Ziigmund and so the loss won’t be slowing his action down.

All of the major hands came whilst playing Omaha, with Hansen cracking aces, flopping a set heads up against Ziigmund, and another where Hansen must have let a few trademark ‘wows’ out:

In a heads-up $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha hand, Hansen is sat on around $93k, Ziigmund on $180k. Ziigmund raises from the button to $1,200. Hansen re-raises to $6,000, Zigmund re-pops it again to $18,000. A call from Hansen and a mere $36,000 in the pot preflop.

The flop of 9d Qc 7h sees Hansen lead out for $36,000 and is moved all in by Ziigmund. Hansen calls, and when the cards are on their backs, Hansen’s pocket Aces (As Ks Ah Tc) have been outflopped by Ziigmund (Kh Qh Qs 2s) , who now has top set. The turn hits Hansen right between the eyes though, with the Jh giving him a gutshot straight, by Ziigmund now picks up the flush draw to go with the boat redraw, with Ziigmund being 45% to get there on the river. No luck on the coin flip though which sees Gus pull in a $187k pot.

Life is good for Gus right now, you feel.
