Golden Nugget to host film-inspired tournament

There’s a whole host of poker films out there which have taken their look at the felted world and put them up on the big screen. There have also been droves of players who have been drawn to the game through watching movies such as Rounders or The Cincinnati Kid. Now a poker tournament has been created inspired by a movie.

The Golden Nugget on the Vegas Strip will host the ‘The Grand Poker Series’ from 6th June – 6th July. The tournament is based on ‘The Grand’, which is a film released this spring and is much like a Spinal Tap style ‘mockumentary’ on the poker world.

The film is a comedy based on a poker tournament, with a lot of the film’s lines being improvised by the actors based on their character’s habits and traits. The movie features Woody Harrelson and Shannon Elizabeth. Doyle Brunson is also set to make an appearance.

The Golden Nugget will host a tournament featuring:

Montel Williams will also be hosting a celebrity event which will raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research.
