New Poker Application Coming To Facebook

Rewards-based online poker site Ujogo.com has placed its allegedly legal poker product on the Facebook Internet community website following extensive research into the advantages and obstacles it may encounter.

Ujogo commissioned research firm TNS to conduct a study that revealed about 30 million adults play free poker roughly three hours a week, some five billion person-hours a year, and this is only a fraction of the total 23 billion person-hours a year spent on casual gaming.

Following the study, Ujogo stated that it set out to find ways of offering players the feeling of having something to lose without running afoul of the law, especially in the US where the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) prohibits financial institutions from funding gambling accounts.

It first launched a web-based game in June and then followed this with an application on Facebook last week built on the same technology.

Ujogo used as an example Facebook’s free Texas hold’em poker application, which is the third most active application on the site after being installed 5.4 million times and has over 370,000 players per day with a viral model that gives players more chips when they invite their friends.

The application is free and players earn points for things such as signing up, inviting others, time played, certain winning hands and number of games played. These points may then be redeemed at its store.

Players also win points for being top-ranked on a leaderboard after starting with 1,000 chips. In addition, if a player runs out of chips, they made reload indefinitely but only top bankrolls win big point rewards on the leaderboard.
