Year of the Bodog for China?

Although China is not officially open to online poker, it hasn’t stopped Bodog Entertainment from announcing they will be pursuing an aggressive advertising campaign in the country. A new ad campaign as well as a Chinese web page on the Bodog Poker site shows they are aiming to capture as much of the market as possible.

'2008 is a big year for the Chinese and Bodog,' Bodog Founder and CEO Calvin Ayre announced. 'We want our Chinese customers to know that Bodog has the same Beijing Olympic spirit to achieve the best.'

The Chinese-language advertising campaign is set to be fronted by Chinese-Canadian poker pro Evelyn Ng, who is one of the members of Team Bodog. The campaign is set to run both in print and online.

The move comes as various companies jostle for market position, anticipating the Chinese government’s regulation of their online gambling industry.

Bodog CEO Calvin Ayre has barked out his warning to the Chinese market, hoping to become the online equivalent of Macau.

'Stanley Ho watch out! Bodog wants to be known as the Macau of the online world. With the best games, top customer service and the innovation to bring the most exciting entertainment to our Chinese customers, they don't need to look to Macau or Las Vegas. We bring the excitement to them. 2008 is a big year for the Chinese and Bodog. We want our Chinese customers to know that Bodog has the same Beijing Olympic spirit to achieve the best.'

Will 2008 turn out to be the Year of the Bodog? We’ll wait and see.
