Baseball stars play poker for kids

The first Geoff Jenkins Celebrity Poker Tournament has seen star baseball players raise $60,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs in the Phoenix area.

New Philadelphia outfielder Geoff Jenkins joined 42 players in the Jackrabbit Lounge to enjoy a late night of poker and raise money for a good cause.

"As athletes we have a chance to do some good," Jenkins told the MLB website. "Why not do it with something everyone enjoys doing anyway? It was easy rounding up guys to participate in this."

Not only did representatives of 14 Major League teams take part in the poker match, but American Football stars and musicians also played across six tables for a charitable game.

Aaron Boone of the Nationals, Paul Konerko from the White Sox, the Dodgers' Russell Marti, Brian Roberts of the Orioles, Indians player Ryan Garko and Mike Hampton of the Braves were among the big names who joined the event.

Although the stars turned up in the name of charity, most of the participants admitted that they knew nothing about poker.

However, Jenkins said he hopes to make the charity poker tourney an annual event.
