PokerStars.net EPT Dortmund, Day 1b: Obrestad, Negreanu, Luske Move On

Day 1b saw 213 players join the field for the Pokerstars EPT German Open, bringing the total number of entrants to 411. Those who joined in the fun were Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Annette Obrestad, Marcel Luske, Thor Hansen and Arnaud Mattern.

One player who made a quick dash from the Aussie Millions to Germany was Roland De Wolfe, but was busted out on the first day. On a board of Kh-3h-2s-9d, De Wolfe got his money in with As-Ks and found one caller with 9h-7h. The Ah on the river made the Full Tilt pro Aces-up but the other player a flush, sending the Englishman to the rail.

EPT Prague champion Arnaud Mattern would join De Wolfe in the players lounge later in the day when he came up against a young lady from Norway called Annette. Obrestad raised preflop and Mattern pushed over the top with Ac-3h. Either he was short stacked or Obrestad liked the odds on offer for what she felt were two live cards, but she made the call with 4s-6s. She hit a gutshot straight on the turn when the board ran 9c-7s-3d-5c, and Mattern was sent packing. Moral of the story: Obrestad is good enough, she’s even better when she’s hitting though.

The overnight chip leaders from Day 1b looks scary for the rest of the field, with the likes of Obrestad, Negreanu and Luske sitting on big stacks. Thor Hansen made it through the day, as did Brandon Schaefer, Rolf Slotboom and Noah Boerken.

The top of the leaderboard was crammed with stars as the tournament ended for the day, with Annette Obrestad, Daniel Negreanu and Marcel Luske all sitting behind big stacks. Thor Hansen, Brandon Schaefer, Rolf Slotbloom and Noah Boeken were also among the notable survivors from Day 1b.
