PokerStars EPT Dortmund: Day 2 Claims Big Scalps

Day 2 of the PokerStars European Poker Tour German Open in Dortmund saw 149 players come back to try make it through to the business end of the tournament. Some of the big names of the tournament were close to the chip leader Cyrille Chabot, with Negreanu, Obrestad and Luske in close contention.

The Flying Dutchman got off to a flying start, entertaining the rail with the usual singing and humour. One player who wasn’t enjoying Luske though was Andreas Sarling after Luske doubled through him with K-J versus the pocket nines of Sarling.

Another who was laying siege to her table was Annette Obrestad, who managed to knock Nicholas Levi out after a set over set flop saw all the money go in. Levi didn’t hit his remaining out, and was left crippled. Annette put the finishing touches to the job, calling Levi’s push with Ad-Kd with pocket aces. Despite the early aggression, Obrestad couldn’t make it through to the end of the day though, with her fearless style eventually costing her a seat in Day 3.

Other big names who went out during Day 2 included Team PokerStars pros Noah Boerken, Daniel Negreanu and Katja Thater. Thater in particular must have felt the pain of her exit more than most, after her AK got a head-start in a race against pocket fours having hit an ace on the flop. A four on the turn though saw her opponent hit one of the last two outs in the deck, and it was ‘auf wiedersehen’ for Katja.

Thirty two made it through to Day 3, with Brandon Schaefer and Marcel Luske being the last of the big names standing. Keep an eye out for English talent Dan Carter though, who ended the day on 105,900 and has been touted by many on the British circuit as a future star of the game.

The top five chip counts going into Day 3 are:

Marco Diego Perez (Spain) 361,600

Michael McDonald (Canada) 335,700

Claudio Rinaldi (Switzerland) 278,700

Marco Liesy (Germany) 278,200

Johannes Strassmann (Germany) 276,400
