Friday 8th February 2008 Final Table Set at the WSOP-C in Rincon
With a 12 hour session on the opening day of the WSOPC Rincon, Day 2 seemed like a relatively comfortable day for those who had made it through the first day. With the action starting off to a frenetic pace, many all ins were called, and players headed to the rail from the opening few hands.
Vanessa Rousso is one of the professions who had made it to the final three tables of play in Day 2, and she managed to add 50,000 to her stack, calling the all in of Michael Katz whose AJo was dominated by LadyMaverick’s AKo. There was no help for Katz, and Rousso added a few more chips to the stack.
Another who got off to a crisp start was Lee Watkinson, who managed to doube up with pocket jacks against his opponent’s pocket nines. Watkinson is one player who is running very well at the moment, and his opponents won’t have been happy to see him double through.
When Tom West was knocked out on the bubble, it was a significant moment for both Rousso and Watkinson, who had now cashed in consecutive events, having both made the money at the 2008 Borgata Poker Classic. In that event Rousso finished 37th for $17,213, whilst Watkinson headed to a final table showing, eventually leaving in fifth place for a $282,779 pay day.
Dreams of a final table for Rousso were extinguished a little later in the day though. Having nursed a short stack for some time, she decided to take her chances, moving in with J7o. Scott Reese decided to look her up with AQ, and there was no saviour for Rousso, meaning she ended cashing in 16th place.
Whilst Watkinson and Rousso had been plugging away in an attempt to get to the final table in Rincon, another pro who was gliding under the radar was Canadian Gavin Smith. Never chipped up, Smith did manage to play solid poker throughout Day 2, and made it to the final table, along with Watkinson. Both he and Watkinson are on average size stacks, with 197,500 and 337,000 respetively.
The chip leader at the final table is Edward Sabat, who has 854,000. With the form Watkinson is in at the moment, you do have to feel like he has a decent chance at winning this tournament, although Smith is a dangerous opponent. Both will be gunning for Sabat, as well as the Circuit ring.
