Poker players take advantage as competition intensifies

New tournaments and big cash prizes are tempting a growing number of poker players to the virtual table, according to industry figures.

Cash bonuses and major events like World Series of Poker 2008 have seen a growing number of people join the online gaming phenomenon, with incentives for players continuing to proliferate.

Nikki Bealing, editor of www.directoryofonlinepoker.com, said it was a result of the popularity of the game, noting the efforts operators were going to in order to entice new customers.

"Players are currently benefiting from the intense competition between leading poker rooms," she explained.

"All players, from the total beginner to the seasoned pro, can take advantage of these offers but many do not even know they exist."

A typical bonus for new players will see a 100 per cent match on a player's first deposit – so if they put up $50 they would see that deposit matched, depending on certain criteria such as playing a designated number of hands.
