BodogLife.com To Target UK

Online casino BodogLife.com has applied for a British operating license as part of its plan to expand further into the European market.

Almost all of the online casino and poker groups targeting UK punters have chosen to boycott the British regulatory regime due to the 15 percent remote gaming tax imposed last year by the Treasury. However, Calvin Ayre, Chief Executive Officer for BodogLife.com, stated that a UK license would not necessarily be used to take bets from British players as the site already has an Antiguan license, which it is using to establish a foothold in Europe.

To receive its remote casino and general betting licenses, BodogLife.com must pass a ‘fit and proper operator’ test with a spokesman for the UK Gambling Commission industry regulator confirming that the online casino’s applications were still pending.

BodogLife.com is one of the few Internet gambling groups to have continued taking bets from US-based customers after the enactment of the controversial Unlawful Internet Gambling and Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in October of 2006 that aims to disrupt financial transactions between players and online gambling companies.

In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, Ayre stated that BodogLife.com’s substantial activities in the US are not criminal.

'We have licenses from sovereign governments to do what we do and that's how it works on every other industry on the planet,' Ayre said.

Ayre admitted that BodogLife.com took bets from US-based customers but claimed that the company did not ‘operate’ there.
