Online Poker Room Buys Major Skin

Online poker software developer and network operator AbsolutePoker.com has finalised a deal to acquire one of its largest skins, VegasPoker247.com, for an undisclosed amount.

The two poker rooms have not yet combined but are expected to do so in the immediate future with information sites such as NetBlog revealing that affiliates were the first to be informed of an imminent player migration as many will be affected financially.

Absolute’s network boasts close to two million registered players and has recently emerged from an in-house cheating scandal culminating in a $500,000 fine from the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. Experts speculate that the buy-out is down to Absolute, like PartyPoker.com before it in the Empire takeover, wanted to corral the substantial player-base and cease paying revenue streams to VegasPoker247.com when both rooms’ customers play at the same tables.

The deal was announced in a statement given by Joe Norton, a former Kahnawake chief and owner of AbsolutePoker.com's parent group, Tokwiro Enterprises ENRG.

“Today’s online gaming community demands and expects a transformative gaming experience that seamlessly integrates superior technology, responsiveness to customer needs and a safe and secure environment in which to play,” said Norton.

“AbsolutePoker.com and VegasPoker247.com are at the centre of this trend and this acquisition will build on our combined heritage to redefine the online gaming experience.”

The statement went on to reveal that the Vegas247.com brand, in operation since 2006, would be closed with the migration of players’ accounts beginning soon.
