Sports stars prepare for poker showdown

A host of sporting stars are to take their place at the poker table when the third annual PartyPoker.com Sports Stars Challenge kicks off this weekend.

Beginning February 17th at 3 Mills Studio, London, the four-day event will see sporting icons of past and present take part, including an array of different sports.

Previous winners have included former world snooker champion Ken Doherty and England rugby union international Austin Healey, with both returning this year.

Tables will be set for footballers, cricketers, sports presenters, snooker players, rugby stars and darts players.

A spokesman for PartyPoker.com, which is hosting the event, said: "We are expecting the standard of play to be very high. Many of the sports stars are good enough to play on the professional circuit.

"The strongest contenders look like the snooker players and footballers but on their day there are so many players capable of taking this title down."

Other names from the world of sport to attend are darts legend Phil "The Power" Taylor, Matt Dawson, a world cup winner with the England rugby side and Sky presenter and former Sheffield United star Chris Kamara.
