Poker profits come back to Black

Popular poker pro Andy Black has never seemed to have the luck of the Irish despite being regarded as one of the best players in the game.

The Belfast-born poker fan is often seen at the major poker tournaments and often reaches the final table, but has never managed to finish what he started and be crowned champion of a tourney.

But this weekend the tables turned as Black beat the formidable Roland De 'Big Bad' Wolfe in a Head's Up to take the top prize at this year's PartyPoker Premier League competition.

Having been in the game for two decades, Black could not have been more pleased that it was the European champ that he vanquished to win first place and pocket $250,000.

At 3 Mills Studio in London, the prestigious event involved 12 top poker legends, including last year's winner Juha Helppi, Dave 'The Devilfish' Ulliott, Tony G, Phil Hellmuth, Victoria Coren, Roland de Wolfe and Eddy Scharf and Annie Duke.

All players paid a $60,000 buy-in fee, though the pay-off involved scooping from a tasty million dollar prize pool after PartyPoker added some extra cash.

Although Black was not chip leader on the final table, his significant stack of 330,000 saw him hold his nerve and finally win the title that many will have thought he deserved.
