Police Raid Three Online Casinos

Police in the southern American state of North Carolina raided three businesses last week and allegedly found players taking part in online gambling.

Investigators said the operators of the alleged online casinos paid out cash prizes as high as $3,000 to undercover officers during an investigation involving local and state law enforcement in the city of Gastonia.

Police stated that the raids found online gamblers seated before flat-screen computer terminals with the owners and managers of the businesses doing little to conceal the alleged gambling taking place.

“People were winning cash and people were losing cash,” said Sergeant Jimmy West of Gastonia Police Department.

Following the raids, investigators interviewed patrons and checked identifications before allowing them to leave. Computer terminals, cash and tickets used in the alleged gambling were confiscated with police stating that arrests would be forthcoming.

“You could ride by and see computer monitors turning like a slot machine,” said Woody Burgess, Chief of nearby Cherryville Police Department.

“They weren’t trying to hide anything. You can be charged for just playing.”

The raided businesses, J&B’s Internet Sweepstakes, Phone Sweeps and Cherry Sales, had around 20 computer terminals in operation with police revealing that investigations had commenced around November.

“Someday the legislature might legalise gambling but until that time comes we’re going to enforce the law,” said Terry Sult, Chief of the Gastonia Police Department.

“We’re going to come down hard.”
