Boris Becker aims to be poker ace

Boris Becker may have been the number one of the tennis world for many years, but now the ginger German is determined to become the best at poker.

According to this Sunday's edition of Die Welt, Becker has swapped the green grass of the tennis court for the green baize of the poker table and intends on going all the way.

Although the money is certainly attractive, Mr Becker claims that it is the mental challenge of poker which draws him most to the game.

"I have already been playing intensively since last year," the 40-year-old told the newspaper. "What fascinates me about poker is the psychology: what is my opponent thinking of me and what do I think of him."

It seems that the rain that we all moan about spoiling Wimbledon gave Boris the perfect opportunity to practice his poker skills, as he said he played cards during the breaks.

Putting up a challenge for other tennis stars to follow suit and turn into poker pros, the three-times Wimbledon champ said: "I would like to know how people like Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, Stefan Edberg, Ivan Lendl or even Jimmy Connors, manage to keep their cool at poker."

Becker is hoping to be one of the field of 800 poker pros to play in the European grand final in Monte Carlo this April.
