Thanks issued to those involved in poker rally

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has thanked those who took part in a rally which was convened to signal the online gambling industry's unhappiness about a plan to criminalise internet poker.

A poker rally on the Massachusetts State House steps saw several dozen poker enthusiasts making their voices heard and delivering the message that playing poker is not a crime.

The PPA has given special thanks to all PPA members, PPA state director Randall Castonguay, Harvard professor Charles Nesson and the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society.

"Over the past several months the PPA has feverishly worked publicly, behind the scenes and at the grassroots level to get this onerous provision from the casino bill removed," it stated.

A state bill that proposed tough criminal penalties for those who play poker on the internet has not made it into law and the PPA has promised to "remain vigilant" to ensure that future bills do not include any criminalisation clauses for online poker players.

The PPA acts on behalf of its members to promote and protect poker through advocacy work in Washington DC and in the states.
