Bluff Europe’s Andy Black Issue Out Now

April 2, 2008 (London, UK) The April issue of Bluff Europe has landed across UK newsstands and card rooms, and while the rest of world is fixated on April Fools, we caught up with the ‘Mad Monk’, Andy Black.

The Irish poker-playing Buddhist speaks candidly about how the world of poker almost sent him to despair, so much so that he retreated to a Buddhist safe haven to get a better understanding of poker, life and madness in general. When he returned to the poker world, he nearly won the biggest prize of them all – the World Series of Poker Main Event. Missing out in Vegas didn’t stop Andy from pushing on, and he spoke to us on the back of his first major tournament at the Party Poker Premier League. We caught up with him to see how it felt to lose the ‘nearly man’ moniker.

Of course, it’s that time of year when poker players dream of winning the World Series. If the $10,000 buy-in dampens your ambitions, don’t fret - we tell you a bunch of ways to get to the WSOP for as little as… well, free.

We also speak to the Godfather of Poker, Doyle Brunson, about his seminal book, ‘Super System’. Penned in 1978, the book is still as influential twenty years on, and we speak to Texas Dolly to ask how the seminal tome came into being.

There’s also a look into when poker players go from a full house to the Whitehouse when we look at what happens when the pros went political and descended on Washington. There’s an interview with Tom Dwan, a.k.a “Durrrr”, who is one of the highest flying online players. Dwan talks about how he’s beating some of the biggest games offered against the best in the world – all at the age of 21.

Of course, there is all the usual high-calibre writing you’d come to expect from Bluff Europe, with contributions by Jennifer Tilly, Dr Pauly and Adam Slutsky, and strategy from Brian Townsend, Mike Caro, Phil Laak and Paul Jackson

Aprils’ Bluff Europe hit UK newsstands on April 1st.
