Hansen dominates day three of WPT Championship

Gus Hansen surged up the chip count rankings on day three of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship to take a commanding lead.

The three-time WPT titlist has an estimated 2,246,000 chips - a 346,000 advantage over Cory Carroll in second.

Third-placed David Chiu is even further back with 1,231,000.

Yesterday saw another host of top players eliminated from the tournament, including Phil Ivey, Marcel Luske, Daniel Negreanu, Chad Brown and Doyle Brunson.

Men Nguyen, Carlos Mortensen, Andy Black and Tom Dwan were among those to survive.

Hansen is the most successful player in the history of the WPT and was inaugurated into its walk of fame in 2004.

He is known for a loose style of play, which once earned him a $575,700 pot on an episode of High Stakes Poker (HSP) when he landed four fives against Daniel Negreanu's set of sixes.

At the time it was the largest pot ever to feature on HSP.
