Poker Players Alliance Fight Back

While they were never going to take the affective banning of online Poker lying down, the Poker Players Alliance is set to take the Washington Authorities to court claiming that the ban is both unjust and violates the Commerce Clause of the United States Constitution. The case will go to the King Country Superior Court on the 15th May and will be accompanied by a band of professional Poker players such as Andy Block and Barry Greenstein. So will they succeed?

In the cold light of day it seems that even if the Poker Players Alliance was to claim a victory in this latest court case, the US authorities have set out their stall for the ban. They cleverly side stepped the traditional means of banning an industry, or activity, by going for the life blood of online Poker, the finance companies. By advising them that they would be breaking the law by funding online Poker sites attracting US customers they affectively killed the industry overnight.

It will be interesting to see how the courts view the legislation which has caused so much controversy, but any immediate change would be very much unexpected. However, the challenge does further highlight the plight and put more pressure on the authorities.
