Thursday 29th May 2008 Casper "The Poker Ghost" scares off competition in WPT Spain event
Casper Hansen triumphed at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Spanish Championship to become the latest WPT champion and claim the $655,720 (£327,000) prize. After fending off over 250 other competitors in the competition, Hansen took the final hand at the Casino Barcelona with two-pair, fives and twos, in a the heads-up against Stefan Mattsson. However, one of the clinching moments came earlier when Hansen doubled-up against the then chip leader Mattson, stealing the position seven hands later. Mattson never regained the advantage and Hansen led the chip count for the rest of the game. The Dane, a relative newcomer to the poker scene, described his play: "I like to play relaxed, a bit sloppy, like I can barely count to ten." Last year, Mattson placed 22nd in the World Series of Poker main event, finishing in the money for the second year running and winning $333,490 in the process.
