Has The WPT Moved To Another Level With India Deal?

News that the World Poker Tour (WPT) administrators have signed a deal with India’s first private sports channel has been well received in the industry and attracted much interest in the future of the tour. The Indian market is one of the few relatively untouched casino markets in the world and has the potential to take the WPT onto a different level.

World Poker Tour Enterprises has signed a deal with Zee Sports of India in a move which will see the channel broadcast 19 two hour programs from season four. The first of the programs is to be shown in September and will see future World Poker Tours heavily advertised and promoted on the channel. The potential for this deal is mind boggling and the WPT has pulled off something of a coup.

Poker in India has the potential to dwarf even the industry in the US and an influx of foreign nationals and growing prosperity among many areas of Indian society bodes well for the future. The government will no doubt be keeping a very close eye on developments as concerns have been expressed in some areas of the Indian community.
