Saturday 13th September 2008 Who has won WSOP and then disappeared?
In the world of music they would be called one hit wonders, in sport they would be one season wonders, but it seems that many players who have won WSOP in the past have crashed and burned, never to be seen again. Is it the pressure? The money? Or was it just down to luck in the first place?

The first thing to say is that it takes a lot more than luck to be a winner at the WSOP main event – luck is good and can see you move on to the later stages, but there needs to be a skill and composure to avoid the pressure traps. So who has won WSOP and then disappeared?

Hal Folwer

1979 WSOP winner Hal Folwer pulled of what many still believe to be the greatest WSOP win of all time when he took a whole host of poker stars to the cleaners to bag the big one. He never went on to hit the highs after the tournament and died in 2000 – still very rich!

Noel Furlong

After playing and beating Alan Goehring in 1999, taking home the massive prize pot, Noel Furlong never seemed to recover from the shock of his victory. His highest win since WSOP has been a $23,000 drop in a No Limit Hold’em event but nowadays he seems to be spending more time at the family carpet business than trying to increase his poker income.
