Sunday 14th September 2008 Where did poker begin its journey?
While the last few years has seen both offline and online poker move on to different levels to those seen just a decade ago many are now starting to question the history of poker and were exactly the game started. Let us consider the main trains of thought for poker and where it all began!<br />

Asia<br />

As you might guess from an industry which is based upon gambling and high levels of risk, many people believe that poker originated in the Far East. There are records of games which were very similar in style to poker being played as far back as the 15th century but records are fairly sketchy and not always comprehensive.<br />

America<br />
<br />
The US has always been a major player in the poker industry and many seem to favour the idea that poker as we know it today started in the US way back in the 18th century. There are comprehensive reports of a poker type game being played in New Orleans and even reports of Mississippi riverboats heavily involved in the industry – as they are today.<br />
<br />
There is no definitive answer to the question of where poker originated but it seems that the games we play today are a hybrid of many poker type games played as far back as the 15th century and beyond. Poker has developed into one of the most popular games on the planet but nobody quite knows where and when it all started!
