Sunday 14th September 2008 WSOP 2008 : Dennis Phillips step forward
As the final stages of WSOP 2008 move ever closer we thought it would be interesting to see who was leading the charge and who to look out for when the final table resumes on the 9th November. So step forward Dennis Phillips....

Dennis Phillips is something of an unknown force in the world of poker and his name has not appeared, as yet, on any of the major competition wins in recent times. However, the 53 year old account manager from St Louis, Missouri is firmly in the driving seat with 26,295,000 chips to take to the final table. He is nearly 2 million chips ahead of his nearest rival, but is this enough to see the Broadway Trucks employee home and dry?

The lives and backgrounds of all of those left at the final table have been investigated in detail by the poker media but Dennis Phillips still remains something of an enigma (his poker winnings were no more than a few thousand dollars before WSOP 2008). He qualified via a $200 satellite at his local Harrah’s casino and has literally gone from strength to strength. Even though he is well ahead of his nearest rival there is a train of thought that the pressure could tell in the final stages although he will start the final days as the favourite to take the crown.
