Monday 15th September 2008 Why do Alabama Republicans dislike online poker?
The last couple of years have been very tough for the online gaming community but it looks like there may be some kind of political vendetta against the online industry in Alabama. It appears that Spencer Bachus, a Republican congressman for nearly 15 years in Alabama, has something against online poker as his out spoken comments seem to testify.

Spencer Bachus is a man who has been very central to a whole range of charitable situation in Alabama, from assisting with third world debt relief to his fight to ensuring that the poor of Alabama are cared by the state. He was also the man who forced a last minute defeat of a recent pro-online gambling bill which was rejected after a 32-32 tie in voting. So why is he so strong in his apparent hatred of online poker and all that it stands for?

Many are assuming that Bachus has been fed a whole range of inaccurate and misleading information by an array of religious parties on the fringes of Alabama politics. Suggestions that teenagers who gambled on the internet were more likely to attempt suicide were attributed to a report which did not even cover the subject. However, by the time that the mis-information had been spotted the damage had been done and the headlines made.

Republicans are being urged to remind Spencer Bachus that this is not the will of all of the people and all views should be taken into consideration.
