Wednesday 17th September 2008 Poker luck considered
Luck is a "major component of success" in poker tournaments, according to Alan Bowden, editor of InsidePoker magazine.
Players will find that "so much depends in the turn of a card" and that a high number of 50-50s need to be won if they are to triumph at events around the world, he claimed.
Mr Bowden's comments come one week before the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe starts at Victoria Casino in London's Leicester Square.
Some of the biggest names in poker will be present at the competition, a number of whom took part in the WSOP in the US earlier this summer.
The editor did suggest that skill is needed over a set period of time, indicating that the game is not purely about the luck of a deal.
"Over the course of a few years, skill wins out massively but, over the course of one tournament, luck is one of the major components of success," he emphasised.
