Tuesday 23rd September 2008 Governor of Kentucky seeks control or PokerStars, Bodog and more
In a move which has quite rightly been lambasted throughout the whole business world it has been revealed that the Governor of Kentucky Steve Beshaear is going to court to seek the transfer of 141 gambling domain names to the state in an attempt to fend of the ‘illegal actions of these gaming groups’. So what is going on?

The irrepressible Steve Beshaear has filed a civil suit asking a Franklin County Court to award the transfer and control of 141 of the best known gambling domains in the world to the State of Kentucky in an effort to ensure that they are not able to ‘advertise’ their service to the residents of Kentucky where online gambling is still illegal. The civil suit names sites such as FullTiltPoker.com, BodogLife.com, AbsolutePoker.com, PokerStars.com and DoylesRoom.com to name but a few.

In what many see as one of the most blatant abuses of power in US politics it seems that Steve Beshaear is using his office to continue a personal vendetta against the online gambling industry in an effort, as he says, to protect ‘Kentucky’s thoroughbred racing industry, our lottery and charitable gaming activities’ – not to mention the millions in tax which the State takes from these operations!
