Tuesday 23rd September 2008 Is Thursday ‘D’ day for the gambling industry?
As we covered on one of our other posts today, Steve Beshaear, the governor of Kentucky has filed a civil lawsuit looking for the transfer of 141 leading gambling domain names to the State of Kentucky after claiming that they are advertising there services to the population of Kentucky in direct contravention of the US online gambling ban. On further reflection it seems as though many in the industry are very wary of the potential for a ruling on behalf of the State by a country court judge who will be under severe pressure from Steve Beshaear.

Such is the concern within the industry that all 141 named groups have been advised to ensure they have legal representation at the case in the event of a damming verdict. For those, as we originally thought, who saw this more as a political signal of intent than a serious threat to the registration of the domains in question it has been revealed that LuckyPyramidCasino.com has already been transferred into the name of Kentucky Justice Cabinet Eric Lycan.
It is quite staggering to think that this court case could actually be successful and see these sites, which have between them invested and earned billion of dollars, not to mention the sizeable tax revenues they have created, end up in the hands of the State of Kentucky come Friday. Watch this space!
