Tuesday 23rd September 2008 WSOP Asia 'one for the future'
It may take a "few years", but there is a good possibility that there will be a World Series of Poker (WSOP) Asia one day in the future.
At least that is the opinion of Casino Review magazine deputy editor Hugh Sorrill, who has claimed that the lucrative card game event will "almost certainly" take place in Asia at some point.
One reason offered by Mr Sorrill as to why it may take some time to establish the tournament in the continent is to do with culture.
Apparently, Asian gaming is more focused on games of chance, rather than skill, and poker relies on a large percentage of the latter.
"Poker is an extremely good game that requires skill and learning. In Asia, why not?" Mr Sorrill remarked, before adding that he is "sure" this switch in Asian gambling culture will come.
Mr Sorrill's comments come in the week that the WSOP Europe got underway in London. Leicester Square's Victoria Casino is hosting the occasion, which runs into the first week of October.
