Wednesday 24th September 2008 Nevada city 'still central to poker and gambling'
Las Vegas in Nevada is still the focus for poker and gambling in the world, according to a representative from Casino Review Magazine.
Hugh Sorrill, deputy editor of the publication, has claimed that Sin City retains the prestige that it has developed over the years.
Talking specifically in terms of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), the industry expert said that the American version of theevent remains the number one competition despite the recent launch of WSOP Europe.
Commenting on European poker in more detail, Mr Sorrill said: "The European Poker Tour is proving extremely popular both with players and casino operators who are pleased to be able to take part in a very strong competition."
He added that poker players would rather establish themselves in the US than in Europe at present.
His views come in the week that WSOP Europe is taking place in Leicester Square, London. The gambling venue in England's capital will host the event, which contains some of the best poker players in the world, until October 2nd.
