Thursday 27th November 2008 Is poker set to be legalised in Texas?
Texas state legislator Jose Menendez has stepped into the argument about the legalisation of poker in Texas. He is again attempting to push through his Poker Gaming Bill which will see poker legalised in Texas for the first time ever. However those expecting a free for all in the state of Texas need to think again as there are a number of conditions and constraints attached.
Many people will be surprised to learn that the state which gave its name to the most popular type of poker has never actually legalised poker in its history. Menendez is hoping the bill will go through some time this year and lead to the creation of a new and lucrative poker sector in the state. In order to avoid any potential controversy in future the main focal point of the bill is the fact that poker is recognised as a game of skill rather than a game of chance. This signifies a new regulatory process and reduces the number of restrictive laws which could affect the game.
The Bill had originally been set to go through earlier this year but at the last-minute it was deemed too controversial in the run-up to the presidential election and pulled from the schedule.
