Thursday 27th November 2008 Shane Warne foundation receives $200,000 charity donation
The Shane Warne foundation has today confirmed receipt of a $200,000 charitable donation from a recent charity poker event organised by Wild Turkey Bourbon. The event was recently held in the Crown Casino in Melbourne and attracted over 140 sports stars, celebrities and poker professionals. There is no doubt that when charitable cases are put before them, the poker industry is very often the first to react.
The 2005 world series of poker champ Joe Hachem was also in attendance and donated a personal cheque for $25,000. The winner of the chargeable event was Michael Chrisanthopoulos from Melbourne who took away the $25,000 prize fund himself. The $200,000 raised will go a long way towards helping the various charities supported by the Shane Warne Foundation and the assistance they give to third parties themselves.
There is a very close link between poker, sports stars, celebrities and charitable events which surprised many in the early days as poker was often thought of as a cutthroat industry where there are few friends. It would be interesting to count up the total charitable donations seen from the poker industry as they would literally be in the tens of millions of dollars.
