Study Reveals Worrying Confidence Issues

Just over half of players in the UK have doubts about online poker websites according to a recent study commissioned by London-listed mobile gambling specialist Probability. The Great British Poker Survey asked 2,500 UK-based poker players ‘how much do you trust online poker sites?’ and the firm stated that it was surprised to learn that only 12.55 percent responded with ‘I trust them, they provide a good service’. Probability revealed that it ran the study in the run up to the launch of a new head-to-head poker game and has put the results online for wider currency. The Survey found that 36.95 percent of respondents ‘mostly trusted’ online poker sites but 19.45 percent said that they had ‘a lot of doubts’ while 31.05 percent said they did not trust them ‘at all’. When those who did not trust online poker sites were asked why, 33.24 percent said that they did not believe the cards were truly random while 32.38 percent revealed that they were worried about the safety of cash and their bank details. Around a fifth of respondents, 21.3 percent, said that they were concerned about regulation while 13 percent stated that they were unhappy with the use of ‘software bots’. “We don’t have any axe to grind on this issue,” said Charles Cohen, Chief Executive Officer for Probability. “In fact, the reverse is true. A healthy poker industry is good for us because the more people who are comfortable with playing remote poker the more business there is for us to shoot for. “Some 50 percent of players surveyed by the Great British Poker Survey said they did not trust the online poker sites. A third said they did not trust them at all. Those figures are striking and came as a surprise even to us. There is clearly an issue here that the industry needs to address.”
