Friday 15th May 2009 Bluff Europe’s Poker Academy Does Dublin
15 May, 2009 (London, UK) - Dublin’s Sporting Emporium is gearing up to host the Bluff Europe’s Poker Academy this Saturday, 16 May, as Europe’s biggest poker magazine continues its crusade to share the do’s and don’ts of the poker trade with mere mortals. After a successful stop in Birmingham, the Academy continues its tour to Dublin, Ireland -- with its final stop at London’s Empire Casino on Saturday, 23 May.
WHO: Donnacha O’Dea and Alex ‘Pickleman’ Rousso bring their expertise and insight on how to win at poker to Dublin.
WHAT: Bluff Europe’s Poker Academy - The day will comprise of three hours of interactive lectures followed by four hours of tournament play with direct supervision from the pros. The first half of the lecture will cover some of the most crucial concepts in professional poker, such as the fundamental ‘Theory of Poker’, luck and variance, dealing with defeat and bankroll management. There will also be an exercise in WSOP hand analyses, as well as the opportunity to send the pros bust when they make guest appearances during the tournament.
WHERE: The Sporting Emporium is Ireland's premier private members gaming and card club -- the latest and most luxurious entertainment destination located in the heart of Dublin. Designed and fitted out to the highest standards, the Club features a total of 30 tables including roulette tables, a LuminAR table which is unique in Ireland, Punto Banco and Pai Gow tables and 14 traditional poker card tables as well as gourmet catering facilities.
WHEN: Saturday, 16 May
WHY: Because poker is a skill that must be honed!
“I’m particularly looking forward to Dublin because the Irish are such avid poker players. I’m also keen to include some comments and feedback from previous seminars, so as we progress, our seminars are evolving for the better,” said Alex Russo.
About The Poker Academy Team
Alex Rousso has a PhD in evolutionary psychology and has taught university undergraduates. He ran the family pickle importing business until he started making more money per hour playing poker. He now writes a column for Bluff Europe (as 'Pickleman') and can be found most days online at the PLO cash tables.
Donnacha O’Dea is a renowned and likable cash player from Ireland. The Don is a former swimmer who represented his country at the1968 Olympic Games. Later turning to professional poker, Donnacha is of the old school, playing more comps than anything else. Making his first cash at the 1983 World Series when he finalled in two events (one being 6th in the Main Event), Donnacha went on to cash a further ten times before capturing a bracelet of his own, his triumph in 1998's $1,500 Omaha Pot Limit event netting him around $155k.
Famed for fending off the Devilfish to win the Ladbrokes Poker Million, Donnacha is considered to have one of the sturdiest games in the business - to witness him lose his composure, discipline or even tilt would be a rarity. A softly spoken yet highly respected figure among the gaming community, Donnacha has the honour of being the first entrant into the European Poker Players' Hall of Fame.
There are still places available on the last two stops of the tour but not for long so interested parties should hurry if they want to secure a place.
Tickets cost £125 + £25, which includes the tournament buy-in. For more information or to sign-up, please visit www.bluffeurope.com/pokeracademy.
