Gamblers quit jobs to play poker

Growing numbers of poker enthusiasts are giving up their day jobs in order to pursue their lucrative hobbies.

Total gambling at online poker sites will easily clear $1 billion this year, as the industry exploded along with a recent surge of interest in the game. This kind of money has led to people gambling more and more.

One man, Nate Silver from Chicago, quit his $55,000 a year financial consulting job in April. He claims he will earn in excess of $100,000 this year playing the card game.

Some players, whilst not quitting their jobs spend up to 12 hours a day playing the game in order to add an extra $20,000-$30,000 to their incomes.

However, some people warn the profits could soon peter out as the boom in interest subsides. But for now most are content to ride the wave and rake in the profits.
