Annie Duke is named most successful female poker player

Annie Duke, the recent winner of September’s Tournament of champions, is now officially regarded as the most successful female poker player in the history of the World Series of Poker. She has earned the title through a succession of victories, with Binions Horseshoe in Las Vegas now posting this claim to her. In her most recent win, she played against some of the biggest names of poker, and walked away with the winnings from the largest freeroll tournament to date.

The final prize pool reached by the recent Tournament of Champions event was US$2 million. Fellow contenders for the title included Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, T J Cloutier, Phil Ivey, Greg Raymer and Phil Hellmuth. Prior to winning this tournament, Duke had earned over US$500,000 in 21 tournaments. In eight years she reached 11 finals tables, including one in 2000 where she was nine months pregnant with her third child.

As well as performing so well on the World Series of Poker Tour, Duke is also employed as a consultant by UltimateBet.com. She also provides online seminars and private poker lessons, and is regularly invited to many poker rooms and communities to give advice and tips to players.
