Wednesday 30th May 2007 Sexy poker ad gets the chop
An advert for an online gaming room suggesting poker helps you to pull, has itself been pulled.
The advert, which depicted a scantily-clad temptress with the strapline: "You love sex. She loves sex. You love money. She loves money. You have money. She loves you. See how much you have in common?", has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
An adjudication followed a complaint by someone who saw the advert on a poster in a men's toilets in a licensed premises and claimed it was irresponsible, as it purported that gambling would get you money and girls.
Gaming company Victor Chandler said that the idea was supposed to promote the concept that "everyone loves a winner" and protested that the only people who would see the advert were the over 18s.
But the ASA insisted that the advert suggested that gambling was associated with sexual prowess. It even went as far to say that the phrase "See how much you have in common?" might be seen to imply that men "even if socially inept, could obtain sexual success" through winning money at the tables.
