Thursday 29th November 2007 World Poker Congress opens in Malta
This year's World Poker Congress has been opened in Malta by Sue Schneider of Clarion Gaming to discuss the success and future of poker.
Mario Galea from the Lotteries and Gaming Authority of Malta explained that the country is becoming one of the most advanced jurisdictions for poker-related activities, according to Poker Pages.
Mr Galea discussed a proposed bill, which would regulate both online and offline poker activities and predicted many new gaming bills for Malta next year.
He also mentioned plans for the finals of a poker tournament to be held live in Malta.
In a recorded address, Jeffrey Pollack of Harrah's Entertainment summarised the success of the 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and the new World Series of Poker Europe.
Next year Mr Pollack said that the Rio Casino, which will host the WSOP, will see improvements, with a WSOP concierge available to participants and the casino would see an increased footprint. "Every year we will do better than the year before," Mr Pollack concluded.
Steve Lipscomb of World Poker Tour Enterprises finished by providing an overview of the growth in the poker industry in recent years and discussed the future of poker.
