Thursday 29th November 2007 New intelligent poker table unveiled
A group of four students at Perdue University in Indiana have created a Smart Poker Table, which monitors the movement of poker chips on the table.
Using Radio Frequency Identification technology, the poker table tracks the movement of chips and all players will be able to access data about the game on an LCD screen.
The table will store statistics about the game to be stored on the web for future reference. "Our project aims to simplify the poker playing experience by providing each player at the table with information about the game in process," the students said on their web page.
Although the Smart Poker Table was designed the facilitate play, it will also mean that players can ensure that no one is cheating.
This newest invention comes after this year Gaming Partners International debuted new poker chips using similar technology, which had been designed to prevent them from being stolen at casinos.
Electronically-tagged chips were presented at the International Casino Exhibition (ICE) in London in January.
