Ivey finally a WPT winner

Despite being the proud owner of five World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, poker pro Phil Ivey had never won a World Poker Tour (WPT) title - until this week.

Although Mr Ivey had achieved an impressive seven final table appearances at the WPT, it was not until he took his seat at the eighth that he was finally able to call himself a WPT winner.

A field of 665 poker fans turned out at the Commerce Casino in order to compete in the World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic.

Although Phil started the final table as chip leader, with $1.5 million more than his closest competitor, it was by no means an easy task to triumph.

He faced WPT title holder Nam Le as well as poker legend Phil Hellmuth.

However Hellmuth busted out first, taking home $229,820 as a consolation prize and was followed by Scott Montgomery who pocketed $296,860.

Nam Le was the next to depart, taking home $411,770 and Charles 'Woody' Moore left the table next with a $625,630 payout.

The head's up only took a matter of minutes, with Ivey going all in on the second hand, producing a full house with a flourish.

Ivey took home a prize package worth $1,596,100, including a seat for the WPT championship while the defeated Quinn Do had to settle for $909,400.
